The Western Sydney University Indonesia, Surabaya Campus will open in September 2024, offering courses that have been tailored to employers, building on Western Sydney University’s world-leading partnership approach to higher education with businesses. 

The site for the Surabaya campus is Pakuwon Tower, located in Central Surabaya. The Surabaya campus will offer world-class facilities and a technology-rich learning environment, with a focus on entrepreneurship, industry embedded learning and sustainability.

World Class Education

Western Sydney University is excited to offer Australian degrees in Indonesia from 2024, opening opportunities to study programs in-country without travelling abroad for Indonesians and for international residents.

Our students in Surabaya will receive an outstanding international higher education experience, benefiting from adaptable study options, access to state-of-the-art facilities and the support of highly experienced, world class academics from both Australia and Indonesia. The curriculum offered will prepare students for today's world. We work with our community, business partners and industry leaders to develop program content that meets the needs of employers and the jobs of the future, and which responds to the challenges of a global workplace.

A key focus will be courses tailored to employers, building on Western Sydney University’s world-leading partnership approach to higher education with businesses. There will be a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, including computing, data, and engineering to reflect the economic and industrial strengths of Surabaya and East Java.

The degrees awarded by Western Sydney University will be fully quality-assured and recognized in Australia as well as being Indonesian Sarjana equivalent. On completion of an undergraduate course, students will graduate with a Western Sydney University degree.

Launch Pad

To help foster a vibrant entrepreneurial culture and start-up ecosystem in Surabaya and East Java, Western Sydney University’s Launch Pad will expand into the new Surabaya Campus.  

Launch Pad, at the Western Sydney University Indonesia, Surabaya Campus, will offer:  

  • Startup Programs, developing resilient founders, who create sustainable and innovative businesses, that meaningfully impact society and community.
  • Industry short courses, expanding entrepreneurial and commercialisation skills in partnership with world-leading experts and industry partners. 
  • Entrepreneurship Training and Development, an innovative approach to training the next generation of high-impact entrepreneurs through a range of programs and activities, including student hackathons to develop practical skills in entrepreneurship. 

Learning Spaces

Our Surabaya Campus will offer technology-rich environments that support high levels of interactivity and engagement.   

Purpose-built learning spaces and designated skills labs will support students in gaining practical knowledge and experience. These specialist learning spaces will be adaptable and reconfigurable, to fill a multi-function role as general teaching spaces. This will ensure efficient space utilisation.    

Students will have access to social and shared spaces where they can study, collaborate, and mingle with their peers. We will utilise agile workspaces, open-plan design, and flexible meeting spaces.

Western Sydney University is a registered Higher Education provider with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA). TEQSA is Australia's independent national regulator of the higher education sector and authorises universities to self-accredit its programs. Based on Keputusan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Nomor 83/P/2020, TEQSA is recognised as one of the international accreditation agencies by the Indonesian government. Western Sydney University has received the permit to establish a branch campus in Surabaya, East Java based on Keputusan Menteri Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi Nomor 691/E/O/2023. Based on the decree, Western Sydney University in Indonesia bachelor’s degrees are equivalent to the Indonesian Sarjana degrees.
